Finding Gratitude in Tough Times: How Small Acts Can Bring Big Joy
Share
There have been times this year when I have struggled to find gratitude. Let me explain...
I have lost a number of important people in my life in the last few months. I am having a really tough time with work, and frankly, do not enjoy it at all, which for me brings additional sadness as I have always thought how lucky I was to have my day job as a change manager.
I don't like the way I have been feeling and so I decided I needed to change some things. I did make an appointment with a psychotherapist and I felt a bit better afterwards but not instantly, and not as improved as I had hoped. I think I also need to work on getting back to being grateful. So from the 1st of September, I am again finding three things in every day that I am grateful for.
One thing I am grateful for is waking up. That will always be a given, as many people are not so lucky.
It's coming up to World Gratitude Day, and I have decided I will be doing something to celebrate this day by sharing with my work colleagues personal handwritten cards to express something about each of them I am grateful for. This small gesture should ensure that they feel special and valued and it reminds me of the small things that can bring joy to both myself and others.
Gratitude might not ease the pain, but it creates moments of light that help us keep moving forward, one small act, one thankful thought at a time.
What’s one small thing you’re grateful for today that could bring a little more light into your world?
